Title: xterm to app Copy'n'Paste? [SOLVED]
Post by: henryxcrudos on August 31, 2009, 05:45:50 am
Dear all,

as described in http://forum.vectorlinux.com/index.php?topic=10377.0 (http://forum.vectorlinux.com/index.php?topic=10377.0), I am interested in the possibilities of enabling copy and paste in xterm.

Thanks to GrannyGeek, having added "Option 'ChordMiddle'" for my Synaptics Touchpad in /etc/X11/xorg.conf solved c'n'p-ing within xterm.

However, I still cannot copy from xterm, and paste into other apps, such as Firefox or Leafpad.

I have found a website (http://www.davidsimmons.com/soft/xtermhacks/ (http://www.davidsimmons.com/soft/xtermhacks/)) which describes how to change the ~/.Xresources file in order to enable c'n'p, but the file is not included in my ~ dir. I have tried (and errored) simply adding to the XTerm section in ~/.Xdefaults without any result.

Has anybody found a solution to this problem yet and could share it here?

The solution proposed in http://forum.vectorlinux.com/index.php?topic=9489.msg62648#msg62648 (http://forum.vectorlinux.com/index.php?topic=9489.msg62648#msg62648) didn't help me, and perhaps I should add that I'm running IceWM.

Many thanks in advance!

There's a very handy copy and paste function in Linux. Simply highlight some text and then while it is still highlighted, go somewhere else and click the scroll wheel button on the mouse at the spot where you want to paste. The text is then pasted.

Thanks, Daniel!

I never thought about trying that after it worked within xterm :o.

Thanks again!
