Title: Video Format Converter Software in VL?
Post by: zbirdman777 on February 25, 2010, 10:07:32 am
What program (if any) should I use to convert videos to different formats, for example from .avi to .mpeg? I've previously used HandBrake but it doesn't want to work on VL. (I downloaded the .rpm and converted it to .tgz and used installpkg). I've also tried WinFF but I don't see it in the repositories and it never worked for me anyway.

Have you looked into the transcoding options found in VLC? I think it will accomplish what you're after.

I'd prefer a dedicated program but I've attempted to tinker with VLC and haven't had any luck converting formats yet.

There's always transcode and mencoder, which are on the VL repo, IIRC.
