Title: sleep/hibernate/suspend without acpi
Post by: Daniel on October 28, 2010, 02:00:07 pm
I have a Toshiba Satellite laptop with VL 6.0 SOHO KDE classic on it and acpi appears to not work on its hardware. Until I either figure out how to enable it when compiling a kernel (if the support is there) or when a kernel is released that supports it, I don't have many power saving features available. I am able to use hdparm to sleep the hard drive, but not much more that I know of. vcpufreq shows the cpu throttling driver as unavailable. Is there any way to do hibernation, suspend, or just use various utilities to conserve power. The laptop has about a 2.5-3 hour battery life right now while running VL compared to about a 5.5-6 hour battery life in Win 7. When I close the lid, the screen turns off but the fan and (I guess) cpu keep running at full power. In addition, VL cannot access the second core of the processor.

Does anybody have a possible solution to any of these issues?
