Title: Kernel 3.0?
Post by: Daniel on August 03, 2011, 10:18:05 am
Will the 3.0 kernel be in the final of VL 7.0 or at least available to be installed from the repos?

We will not be making a big kernel jump with the 7 final release, but it will become available in the repo for those wanting to live on the edge................:)

There really is nothing special about 3.0. It is a continuation of the 2.6.x series in terms of internals and features.

Its just renumbered from what would have otherwise been 2.6.40. The numbering change was in "honor" of the linux kernel's birthday.

Here it is in the VL7 repo. I haven't had an opportunity to try it out yet. Looks like there's already been a few updates to 3.0 in our repos too.

roarde was saying he's using the kernel from VL7 rc2.1, in his older VL6 installation.

No, he wasn't. But the way he mumbles, it's hard to tell sometimes.
