Title: [VL 7.0-64] Thunderbird and OpenOffice
Post by: ronnyquest on November 08, 2011, 02:03:30 am
I have installed VL 7.0-64 on my desktop and am looking for Thunderbird and OpenOffice for this machine:

Code: [Select]
Linux velocity.TEOTWAWKI 3.0.4 #1 SMP Tue Oct 4 18:40:14 MDT 2011 x86_64 AMD Phenom(tm) II X4 965 Processor AuthenticAMD GNU/Linux
It was suggested in another thread that I post the requests here.  Thanks in advance.  Let me know what I can do to help.

While I was able to get Thunderbird from the Slackware repository, it would be nice to have that in our Vector repository.

Likewise, OpenOffice, though I was able to download and install it from openoffice.org directly.

Some users would prefer an easier button for this.

Would LibreOffice suffice or is OpenOffice necessary?
Sounds like LibreOffice is getting more development these days, Google and Red Hat are onboard with paid programmers. Oracle has dropped commercial support for OpenOffice.

Uploading libreoffice 3.4.4 as we speak. Give me 15 min or so to have it up and ready.

Really it is just a modification of this build from SlackBuilds.org
http://slackbuilds.org/repository/13.1/office/libreoffice/ (http://slackbuilds.org/repository/13.1/office/libreoffice/) which is not actually a build from source, but it works.

So if anyone has a build from source they are working on please continue and when done it can be used to replace this one.

In the mean time every thing here seams to work perfectly, but please let me know how it goes with your own testing.

So far, so good.  All applications are working as intended.  Thanks for getting this in the repository.  Good job!

LiberOffice is a great set of tools, but there is a slight compatibility issue.  I have been forced to reformat files I created using openoffice.  While this would be fairly minor, I am a writer and game designer, so I have LOTS of specially-formatted text documents and spreadsheets.  Would it be possible to have another go at an openoffice package?  I have been unable to get the Slackware package to complete an install.  Thanks.
