Yay!

Installed this and everything on my laptop works out of the box.  The default theme is great.  Couldnt ask for more.

I did finfld that the included awesone wm does not start with the included caito package, but upgrading cairo from untested does the trick.

Good work uelsk8s.  This is a milestone for vl development

Burning the disk as I type this. We can expect a 64-bit SOHO next?  ;D

Thanks all :) I have been waiting for this. Just downloaded the iso and will be installing after work tonight.
Someone should post a blurb about this on linuxquestions.org in the vector linux forum :)

I noticed that the install does not include kernel-src which would be needed to install proprietary video drivers. Are these in a separate repository or is there a specific reason why this file is not included? Are there issues getting proprietary video drivers working with the 64 bit version?

Ralph_Ellis try here for kernel source: vectorlinux.osuosl.org/VL64-7.0/kernels/3.2.22-1vl70 (http://vectorlinux.osuosl.org/VL64-7.0/kernels/3.2.22-1vl70).

Looks great :) No issues other than the usual shenanigans with blacklisting nouveau and intel hdmi and installing the nvidia drivers, rox and vlc. Hats off to the dev team :)

What are the main differences between this and the Lite version.. I take it this is even lighter  or is this the same as Lite just optimised for 64 bit OS's?

Actually, the standard versions feature far more packages out of the box than the lite versions.  Additionally, the 64-bit version is specifically built to take advantage of the increased power of the 64-bit processors.  A 64-bit CPU is required to run a 64-bit version of any OS.

In any case, while the standard distributions are "heavier" in terms of space required and packages installed out of the box, Vector Linux Standard distributions are still greatly optimized and tuned better than most other distributions of Linux.

@Dark Rider: This is essentially the 64-bit version of Standard. It would be heavier than VL Light, but it will fly on a 64-bit system.

I can't start the wammu. Some problems about Python package. Maybe some would look at it, and fix the problem.
error:
Code: [Select]
Traceback (most recent call last):
  File "/usr/bin/wammu", line 31, in <module>
    import Wammu.Locales
  File "/usr/lib/python2.7/site-packages/Wammu/Locales.py", line 31, in <module>
    import wx
ImportError: No module named wx

thanks

I'm about to install VL64 to a usb stick.  Any forewarnings, anyone?

-------

Answering my own question, VL64 isn't set up yet to use unetbootin to install on a usb stick.  So back to the CD method i go.

I had  to rename isolinux/init.lz to isolinux/init.gz and it worked here. I think unetbootin is too strict in this case.

rbistolfi, How did you do this?
Just copy the contents to a FAT32 partition on the USB drive, rename the file and run bootinst.sh?

I used unetbootin to create the bootable USB, and then renamed the file in the USB drive

Good day! Is it pure 64? Can I run 32-bit applications (which required 32-bit libraries, such as ia32-libs) ?

@Gans: Yes, it comes as pure 64, but you can add 32 bit libraries to it.

Thx  :). And what is the best way to do it?

Looks like the required libraries are not available in our repos.. :(
There is a guide here: http://alien.slackbook.org/dokuwiki/doku.php?id=slackware:multilib#adding_32-bit_slackware_libraries

I will do a test on my system and see how that goes.

Could we get a delta from RC2 to FINAL? Or is it to big to be worthwhile?

32-bit libraries: ow, this is messy. I'm gonna backtrack on this one. I can be done, but not sure I'd want to do it. Sorry!  :-\

What TV tuner cards (if any) does this new operating system support?

It depends on the cards. Check the manufactures sites for that.

What are the system requirements for VLOCITY 64?

I've *just* fully installed the VL 7.0 complete with pictures, videos etc and I'm willing to start over again if the 64bit version is a definite advantage to me.  Is the package selection as good as for the 32 bit versions?  Most importantly, I would like to get access to 32 bit programmes.  I thought I read there were none on the repos yet.....but if they are, are the lib32's automatically installed as dependencies?  I need life to be simple now.  I do like what I have currently.

I have a very early dual core amd with 936 megs of ram.  Thanks.

There are no 32 bit libraries installed.

You would need to install them this would be
how to do that:

http://www.slackware.com/~alien/slackbuilds/wine/pkg64/13.37/wine-1.5.5-x86_64-1alien.tgz

There are not as many 64 bit apps as there are 32 bit apps.

How do I know what TV tuner cards will work correctly with VLOCITY 64

grep DVB /boot/config* will get you a list of drivers

That information is interesting, and useful to a point, but I was asking about tuner cards, not tuner card drivers.

You asked which cards would work. No card will work without a driver, therefore you wanted to know about drivers, whether you knew it or not.
