Title: Video recording software please.
Post by: Locator on September 28, 2012, 06:35:43 pm
Is there any video recording software for Linux that is simpler to use then MythTV? I am looking for something that will let me manually set up video recording schedules, or record video tapes. Thanks in advance.

I am unsure about the "easy to use" part on these things. But what I just did was this:

Opened gslapt from the menu
in the search bar I typed the word "video" and pressed enter
I clicked on the description tab and started clicking on the applications from the list above it

There were several video applications there that might seem to be what you are looking for, however I do not know if they are any more easier to use than myth-tv. Sorry I am not able to help much more than this. I know there are others here who use those video applications a lot, hope they will chime in soon.

I'm looking for software that will let me record from TV stations or video tapes, but thanks for trying. And as long as I'm here, where can I find a copy of ffmpeg (version 0.10.12)?

There is XBMC, just search that in the gslapt. I do not know if it records, I "think" you need a plugin for that. I don't have it installed yet to see for myself.

For the ffmpeg-0.10.12, the latest I see in the stable and unstable repository is the x.11, you may want to go to the "package request" section of forum and request that.

cheers

According to it's description, it only plays multimedia files already on your computer - it does NOT record anything.

As I have stated, I think you need a plugin, which doesn't seem to difficult to do. See this link:

And if all of that seems too much of a task, you may ask for a plug-in package to be built by heading over to our package request section of the forum.

Here are some add-ons / Plug ins:
