Title: Flash plugin 11.2 not working on XP2200+ system
Post by: JWG76 on August 19, 2013, 03:10:46 am
When I first installed VLL 7.0, Flash in Opera and Firefox was working fine.
After updating to 11.2 the plugin crashed.
I downgraded and flash content works again.  I've read that the issue is that the 11.2 plugin only supports SSE2 not SSE.
Has anyone else had the same issue?

Does anyone have an educated view on the security risk of using the older version?
My use of flash is minimal mainly viewing short news clips on places such as bbc.co.uk (I also use Opera with the enable plug-ins only on demand option)

Ueducated guess. Flash 10.3 is just fine to run in linux.

I'm at work so can't give exact details but played with the different available packages in the main repositories last night.
All except the latest version work fine with my hardware, as well as 10.3 there is another 11.*
The 2 versions of Flash 10 however trigger security update warnings.

The "bug" is well documented.  It does seem to be the lack of SSE2 rather than speed of processor that's the problem.

Adobe clearly have no plans to fix it.

There's a workaround here to use a Chrome plugin in Firefox (and I hope Opera) which I might try later in the week.
