Title: Webtest is ME! An OLD Hacker! Wish I had an AVATAR ???
Post by: Webtest on May 23, 2017, 04:21:09 pm
Esteemed Forum Participants and Lurkers:
===============================
I'm and OLD Hacker ... started with a VACUUM TUBE Bendix G15.  I'm active in Linux Mint circles running exclusively LOCKED LiveMedia systems (NO HARD DRIVE!).  That way I never have to worry about malware corrupting my system.  I have an Avatar that I normally use, but I can't upload it on this forum ??  It is a JPEG, 5210 bytes, but I keep getting the following error message:
The following errors occurred when trying to save your profile:
The avatar you have selected is either too large or not an avatar.

I looked at a few other avatars ... JPEG, PNG, GIF, some as large as 8kb - what's wrong with mine?

This is my first post to Vector Linux! Thanks for any and all comments, suggestions, and assistance ...

What are the physical dimensions of the image? That may be what the "size" issue is referring to.

Hello retired1af ..

The avatar is 120 x 108 pixels, about 5.1 kB.  If that is to big, it sure would be nice if that information was specified and easy to find!

 . . . . .
Actually, the avatar for tomh38 is larger, but it is listed as:

150px × 144px (scaled to 65px × 65px)

How the devil is it scaled?  I may never get vector linux up just because of all the time it is taking farkling around with the avatar nuisance.

Well .. as you can see, I loaded my avatar into the gimp (I hate that program ..) and did manage to get it scaled to 65 x 65 pixels, and it did load.  Hey, it would be nice to know what the maximum size is ??

Well, I'll be back when I get a live version of VL running.

I'm glad you overcame your strong emotions and prevailed against the system.  ;D

We'd be interested to know more about how you set up your system when you do get VL the way you want it.

I'll have to do some digging and see what the system requires. I do know that the majority of avatars in use were uploaded using an older version of SMF.

For simple things like this, mtpaint is friendlier, and available in the repos.
