Title: xscreensaver (SOLVED)
Post by: StrayBit on July 27, 2017, 08:14:38 am
I've been wondering for quite a while why gltext has been omitted from this package.

I dont see that we're doing anything to not include it.  If you can figure out how to get it in there, I can get the package rebuilt.  Let us know.

I have attempted to get gltext working since it was removed from vectors package. Gl screensavers are included in all the slackware packages I have downloaded but the issue is getting them to run. adding various freeglut did not help..I had to switch to another linux to get it back on the spare room desktop.

It is a build-time dependency issue... I'm in the process of getting our package re-built and updated. If you could enable the untested repository and let us know if that works for you, I'd appreciate the feedback and move the package into the stable areas.

You should see a minor version update show up on gslapt soon (if untested is enabled)

Upgraded - tried Preview
Quote
xscreensaver:  signal: 0:  child pid 23495 (gltext) terminated with signal 11
waiting for it to kick in normally...same thing!
I was able to see the time - sometimes - with other info using NoseGuy.  It is a temporary work-around.

There seems to be a problem with the source code on this one
I will revert to the previous version and add still link against the same libs.  and re-install build '2vl72' of the 5.36 version when it becomes available

Updated package now in "untested" repo:
32-bit: http://vlcore.vectorlinux.com/pkg/untested/veclinux-7.2/x86/xscreensaver-5.36-i586-2vl72.txz
64-bit: http://vlcore.vectorlinux.com/pkg/untested/veclinux-7.2/x86_64/xscreensaver-5.36-x86_64-2vl72.txz

Please test and report back.

Note you need "direct rendering" (3D acceleration) to use GL screensavers. In a terminal, enter "glxinfo | grep render" to see if that is enabled.

That got it.  Thanks, MOE-lnx
nightflier:  Never had a problem with that before

direct rendering: Yes
    GLX_MESA_multithread_makecurrent, GLX_MESA_query_renderer,
    GLX_MESA_multithread_makecurrent, GLX_MESA_query_renderer,
OpenGL renderer string: Mesa DRI Intel(R) 845G x86/MMX/SSE2
but thanks.

Thanks StrayBit I have been wanting gltext back since early 7.1 Beta when it was removed. I can finally reinstall Vector back on the spare room computer where the date and time have wobbled for years. although since removed on vector was another system. guess I should have requested it here rather than the beta threads, whatever.
Thanks
