Title: Opensuse 10.0 to Vector 5.8 SOHO Keep Home?
Post by: Captainfur on June 01, 2007, 02:00:34 am
Hi,

Its time to upgrade my system.  I currently have Opensuse 10.0 and plan to install Vector.  Should I keep my existing home partition, delete most dotfiles and point the Vector install to my existing home partition?  Will this setup my existing user accounts?  Or am I better of setting up a new home, new user accounts and changing the permissions of my existing files to suit the new user accounts? (I will be using the same user names but different distros seem to default to different user ID numbers).

Cheers

Yeah,  guess you could try that.
But I recommend you make a backup of all your documents anyway!

Vector will not setup those user accounts by default. However, you can set them up afterwards to agree with your existing configuration, as I have done in the past. Compared to starting from scratch, it's relatively easy.
