Title: [SOLVED] swappiness
Post by: wcs on July 30, 2007, 09:11:59 am
I wanted to try changing swappiness just for the sake of it.
However, I find no /proc/sys/vm/swappiness file on my system. I do remember it being there before, though.

This might have something to do with having done a kernel upgrade to 2.6.21-ck2

Does anyone have this file? (and have you tried changing its value?)

Thank you!

The CK patchset includes a patch for regulating swappiness on the fly, so /proc/sys/vm/swappiness isn't used.

But yeah, when not using a CK kernel, I've varied the swappiness, usually lowering it to 5 - 30.  I think you'll get better performance with the CK patch than with manually changing swappiness.

Great! Didn't know that.
Oh, well, if the ck patch does its job well, no point in tinkering with it manually then.

Thanks a lot.

Very welcome;  I wondered about it too, the first time I tried to set swappiness after compiling a ck kernel.

This is really old and possibly outdated, but here's a link: http://kerneltrap.org/node/1044
