Title: GCompris
Post by: GoingDown on August 02, 2007, 02:42:37 am
http://gcompris.net/ (http://gcompris.net/)

GCompris is a free set of childrens educational/game software which I have used on other distros in the past with my kids.  Would really like to be able to use it with VL - VL now my distro of choice.

Any thoughts?

I'll have a look at it.

I was going to build it a couple weeks ago.  But decided not to as it needs MANY Gnome deps.  I didn't think anyone would be interested in it with all the baggage needed.

If roseway doesn't want it, I could build it,  But between the GCompris package, and the needed deps, a user would really have to want it.

I haven't tried building it on a VL Standard system yet, but on this SOHO system I only had to install three dependencies (gnuchess, pysqlite and texi2html) so it wasn't difficult to build. (Of course I may well have already installed many other packages which are needed).  But when I try to run it, it crashes with a python error ("Module Numeric not found") and I'm a bit stuck at the moment.

Well, I've got it working, but some of the games are too difficult for me. ;D

I have to apologize....   I thought GCompris required many Gnome deps.  I was very wrong  ::)  I dunno what I was thinking.  ???
