Title: Alpine - distributable pine e-mail clent
Post by: Tigerwolf on October 02, 2007, 12:32:19 pm
Pine's been around for years, and is a powerful and widely used text-based e-mail client.  It's not been in many distros since the license conditions were restrictive.

However, pine's been frozen and new development continues under 'alpine' which has an Apache 2.0 license and therefore easier to include in distributions.  See:

This would be a good addition for Vector.

Alpine is based on the years-old pine base, so it seems lots more stable than 'alpha'.  I've been using it on a non-VL box for some time now and it seems very solid. I suspect they're calling it 'alpha' because of the name change and some code was apparently re-written due to the license issues.
