Title: a gui DE that doesnt use X11?
Post by: blurymind on October 30, 2007, 11:58:21 am
http://www.rocklyte.com/athene/

a desktop environment that doesnt use X11's libraries. I saw this at freshmeat and now i wonder if its worth a peak.

they claim there is a freeware version.I wonder how outdated this is

they also claim to be 25% faster than x11,with their own library that was created for quick rendering.
check the benchmarks:

also it seems this is free of charge to use and there is a download page

Wow, this looks like a complete OS built upon Linux, but without the need for X11.
It would really be nice to hear some real life experience from people with this new toy :p
Maybe there's something we can learn...

Over 3 years, last release was in 2004.

Not too much. You can't look at the code, it's closed source.
