Title: Please Post Your Vec Specs
Post by: overthere on June 10, 2008, 01:41:00 pm
To better understand what Vector Linux is being installed to.. please post your vec specs.

The more users that post the better informed the vl team and you will be...

Perhaps the easiest way to do this is to choose system from the menu, click system profiler and benchmark, click summery in the left pane, then choose information at the top left of the window and choose copy to clipboard. you may then paste to the thread. you may like to cut the username from the listed info.

Here is one of mine as example:

Don't have the System Profiler installed in my VL 5.8...but...

Dell Latitude C640
1.8 GHz Pentium Processor
1GB RAM
30GB Internal HD
80GB External USB HD
Radeon 7500, 1400x1050 resolution, 110fps in glxgears @ fullscreen
DLink Air Plus Wireless (DWL-G650)
Synaptics Touchpad

I think this is a great idea - hopefully will ease some worries for would-be users: "I wonder if VL will work on my system...oh look, someone with the same box is using it. Should be safe to give it a try." *15 minutes later* "Oh crap...VL is fast!"

Cheers,

LLL

If my computer would do that, I'd stop using VL... I prefer a more quiet work environment.

The benchmark thingy crashes on my box, will post spex on it later when I have slightly more time.

Fresh install of VL 5.9 GOLD on a borrowed Compaq Armada e700 laptop...haven't even found all the kinks yet, it's so fresh! PII-400MHz@224MB is rather snappier on the VL than the previous Windows XP Pro installation.

Yeah, but IMO PC's should be used and abused as long as they can take it. After the MB and/or the CPU die, then maybe we can set up a museum. :P

Just built and installed 5.9 Std Gold. Will be adding the multimedia pack for podcasting and such. Plan to install KDE along with some Educational things for my 4year old.

Asus M2A-VM HDMI
PNY GEfORCE 9600gt 512mb PCIe
Corsair 2048MB PC6400 DDR2 800MHz (2x1024)
AMD A64 X2 5000+ 2.6G
WD HDD 320G SATA2
Samsung DVD Burner SATA
Ultra Aluminus atx tower case

I plan to write something up regarding the small things I ran into regarding installation. 8)

BTW, I can't wait for the 64 bit VL to come out because I may just reinstall to really let this system stretch its legs.

As always thanks to everyone involved in such a great release.

Bought four P3 700MHz Toshiba laptops for £50.  Only one worked, but a bit of fiddling around, I now have three working although one doesn't charge its battery.  Using Cisco (Atheros) PCMCIA wireless cards and Canon printer on a Axis print server.  All works well and very reliable.

I have gotten various VL releases to work on a variety of my personal machines:

IBM X22
PIII 800
640mb of RAM
SMC USB 802.11g wireless
VL 5.9 Standard and 5.9 Light

IBM 390E
PII 300
256mb of RAM
Netgear WG511T cardbus 802.11g wireless
VL 5.9 Light

IBM 240
Celeron 300
320mb of RAM
Netgear WG511T cardbus 802.11g wireless
VL 5.8 Standard and 5.9 Standard (via the 'surrogate machine' method) and, thanks to uelsk8s' instructions, I was able to install 5.9 Light directly from the .iso via Grub.....(5.8 Standard and 5.9Standard are too slow on this machine.......5.9 Light works GREAT).

IBM 600E
PII 333
288mb of RAM
Netgear MA401 PCMCIA 802.11b wireless
VL 5.8 Standard and 5.9 Standard. Currently using 5.9 Light as 5.8 Standard and 5.9 Standard are too slow on this machine.....

Sony Vaio PCG-TR2
Pentium M 1ghz
1gb of RAM
Built-in wireless 802.11g
VL5.9 Standard

Compaq M300
PIII 600
320mb of RAM
Netgear WG511T cardbus 802.11g (5.9 Standard) or  Netgear MA401 PCMCIA 802.11b (5.8 Standard) wireless

Everything works on the above laptops except the scroll wheel on my USB mouse with the Sony Vaio.

I will post printouts with more complete specs when I have the chance.....

We have also installed VL 5.8 Standard on at least 30 different desktop machines (Dell, Gateway, Compaq, etc.) for our Reno Cigar Lions Computers for Kids program. I'll try to post specs on as many as I can as we proceed.....

More to follow.....

Look at my too damn  old one, didnt even think vl will work so fast!!
Btw,cpu frequency is 650 mhz by default and it works on on 851 mhz with cooler without 2 of it's wings(one broke by accident - that accident is called "finger in cooler :) ",second one i got off to prevent my pc from moving around the room with vibration - now it only gives a strange noise)
