That's a neat wallpaper.  B&W photos with select colorings are cool.
BTW, is that a statement that VL works great on older hardware? Because that hardware definitely IS old. :D

I thought so...not only is vector great on old hardware but as reliable and simple to use...provideing you have electricity..

yes and works as well as the day it was purchased..

well...once bitten, twice shy...I do not have gimp installed to this box yet...but.I did purchased a MMBD so not inspired to win one...and upscales are less than interesting as pointed out. I am not much of an artist.. and it took a while to figure out how to add text...but I was excited to have made it that far and wanted to post the results...

awe...but I don't wanna.  MOOOM...and these images are mostly 1024 to fit MY screen and the  cheapo test cam only does 1600x1200

For the sake of argument (so to speak) an Mtpaint image at 2560x 1600 downsizes to 1600 x1000,
A photo at 1600x1200 upsizes to 2133x 1600.
A downsized pic from 1600x1200  to 1024x768 and manipulated (to say the least) up sizes to  Oh MY God and has to be acceptable as MY wallpaper because I spent 60 bucks on the stupid test cam

Had the contest been simplier I may have entered any one of these and had fun loseing, as it was I entered only to save from zero and lost..lol...enough said

Okay! So you'll post that 1600x1200?  I like that Daisy ;)

Edit: BTW That may be a $60 cam.  But mine which takes larger images and cost much more then that....  Can't take that nice of a picture.  Might be a operator handicap too.  I dunno  ::)

Well...like I said, that daisy  exists now as 1024 as I think I discarded the1600, since I run 1024...you may have upscaled it.. but the proof is in the pudding so here are the 1024 upscaled to 1600 and 2133
This SQ cam is almost impossible to focus so some diligence is required to find a shot and best results seem to be at lower resolutions

http://files.myopera.com/dsl-o/albums/549126/Daisy2133.jpg

I'll see If it remains somewhere as 1600 along with the others

Unfortunately, as expected the sharpness is lost when scaling it back up. :(
If you stumble upon the original sometime, I'd be pleased if I could use it.  For personal enjoyment I promise. No need to add the logo.  That's not what I'm looking at. There's no doubt this is a VL machine.

well this did not end well..I never stop being a disappointment.I seem to think the majority of vl-std users are running p3's at 1024x768.

I thought the wallpaper contest was outragously difficult and no fun and no one would enter.

although I admitt I am not the greatest artist, I thought at least some may appreciate what a cheap cam and mtpaint could do to create a 1024 wallpaper, I guess to suggest some reconsideration and let folks know it's fun to try even if you can not enter

but alas it seems to win gimp you need gimp and a monitor that does at least 1400x and more ability than I can muster. sticking "vector" on a few out of focus pics to prove a point is just pathetic..evidently aquireing some 2560x wallpaper is more important than getting some disc's out there.and why do I even care? I had no interest in actually entering, I have the MMBD,..I think I'll take a break..later
cheers
ps...sorry for the rant..this just bugs the heck out of me

The requirements for sizes seem a little steep for the majority I feel also.  Until recently I never would of needed higher res wallpapers.  But now I'm using 1280x800.  So your size would  be stretched side to side pretty bad on my screen.  A circle, like the center of your daisy for example.  Appears to be egg shaped on it's side instead of round.  Even the VL globe at boot looks bad.
I guess the point I'm getting at is that it's much better to have oversized wallpapers that can be scaled down and cropped, then trying to up scale and crop a smaller image.  Doing the latter yields a kinda goofed up picture.

I'm guessing you are the person that's taken all the pictures we've seen thus far.  And guessing also that you used that "cheap" camera.  But I'm here to tell you that you have a great eye.  I've enjoyed all the pics I've seen, and that camera is definitely a keeper.  It/you takes very nice shots.
