I installed a newer version of libgpod which is used by gtkpod, the linux ipod application

Before I had no problem but now when I try to mount the ipod as a device I get the following error:

The name org.freedesktop.Hal was not provided by any .service files

In the changelog I see some recent changes to how HAL recognizes the device

2009-05-02  Christophe Fergeau  <>

   * tools/hal-callout.c: mount ipod to collect more ipod

2009-05-02  Christophe Fergeau  <>

   * tools/hal-callout.c: set ipod.images.formats in hal

2009-05-02  Christophe Fergeau  <>

   * tools/hal-callout.c: parse ipod production info and insert it
   in hal

2009-05-02  Christophe Fergeau  <>

   * tools/hal-callout.c: set ipod model, ipod color and ipod
   generation properties

2009-05-02  Christophe Fergeau  <>

   * tools/
   * tools/hal-callout.c: populate hal ipod device tree with
   extended ipod information

I searched the web and found this information that suggests it is a permission problem

However, this website doesn't mention anything about .service

Can anyone point me in the direction to fix this?  I'm afraid of messing up my HAL config
just to use one updated library.
