My Acer came with XP, I re-partitioned the drive and installed Vector Linux Gold 6.  Most things worked out of the box, except I cannot seem to get sound to work. I re-configured ALSA, re-checked the mixer, all sliders are at max, still no sound.  Solution(s)?

had the same problem with dell, after a bit of fooling around got it to work with the following settings::
switches:: "video","mix","mix mono","spread front to surround and center / LFE"
dropdowns:: Surround Jack mode -> shared ; Mic -> Mic1 ; Channel Mode -> 2ch ; Downmix -> Off

hope it works for u too...
