Mouse issues in 5.9 Light
« on: June 27, 2009, 07:29:01 am »
I've got a kind of old pc here. AMD 500MHz, 60 MB of RAM, don't even have USB etc et al. I've installed VL light 5.9 successfully but somehow the mouse doesn't work on the GUI mode. I tried reconfiguring many times with vasm but it didn't work. My mouse it's a Genius, mechanical, 3 button and the plug is a rectangular serial one.

So~ Can anybody there help me?

To initialize serial port, run:
vasm > super > (password) > hardware > hwset > check box for "serial" > OK
reboot and try your mouse again.

from a terminal as root type:

Code: [Select]
mcedit /etc/X11/xorg.conf

find the following lines:

Code: [Select]
Section "InputDevice"
Identifier  "Mouse0"
Driver      "mouse"
Option     "Protocol" "auto"
Option     "Device" "/dev/input/mice"
Option     "ZAxisMapping" "4 5"
EndSection

edit them like this:

Code: [Select]
Section "InputDevice"
Identifier  "Mouse0"
Driver      "mouse"
Option     "Protocol" "Microsoft"
Option     "Device" "/dev/ttyS0"
Option     "ZAxisMapping" "4 5"
EndSection

save the file and press CTRL+ALT+BACKSPACE to restart X. now your mouse should be working.

opa2:  Glad you got it working.  You might want to change the subject line to read [SOLVED] so that folks doing technical support know it's fixed.  Thanks.
