Keyboard shortcuts / hotkeys
« on: August 24, 2009, 03:38:24 am »
Dear vectors:),

Is there any possibility in VL Light 6.0 to define "system-wide" keyboard shortcuts, e.g. for opening a root terminal? I have done this earlier in Xubuntu (now thankfully) abandoned in favour of VL, so that when I pressed CTRL+Shift+T, a new xterm window would open.

Many thanks in advance for any suggestions.
VL Light 6.0 (Final built, 31/03/09, kernel 2.6.27.12).

IceWM in VL Light 6.0 is set up with keyboard shortcut keys. For root terminal, press the Super (Windows) key + a.
To change or add actions, edit the file ~/.icewm/keys. Restart IceWM to activate changes.

Many thanks for your quick reply! That's grand!

Is there any such thing like the Documentation accessible via the website, as PDF btw?

Don't know of any PDF documents, but you can find some good info on an installed system in /usr/doc/VLHelpCenter.

The changes I made in ~/.icewm/keys had no effect, until I realised that when I want to change something for a user, I shouldn't be logged in as root ;).
Holy moly, you REALLY do learn a lot with Linux! ;)

There is excellent documentation for IceWM online. See
 http://www.icewm.org/FAQ/
 http://www.icewm.org/manual/
 http://www.icewm.org/themes/

IceWM is amazing when you see all the possibilities for setting it up exactly as you want it. Also, the configuration files in ~/.icewm are well commented and you can probably figure out what you want to do just by examining the file (keys, preferences, toolbar, winoptions).
