Hi everybody,
"Ich bin ein Berliner" and have been running VL Light 6.0 on my old Dell Latitude C610 laptop for a fortnight now. I've tried a number of distros before finally going for VL: xubuntu, Zenwalk, DSL, Puppy. While xubuntu was simply too slow, I quite liked Zenwalk (although I ran into troubles with Amarok soon). DSL was just not my look and feel, though incredibly fast and I almost stuck with Puppy, if it hadn't been for their pathetic (my impression) repos.
So, now, VL Light 6.0. Fast enough for my taste, had few problems, the Linux newbie that I am, no probs with wifi drivers, OOo 3.0 installable (although I need to find out where to get a different version than the dev...), great customizability, and A GREAT COMMUNITY (def. kudos to nightflier, GrannyGeek and M0E-lnx) with quick, patient and knowledgable responses.
Until I can afford a new laptop with sufficient speed and RAM for more feisty distros, I'll stick with VL Light.
And will find out next how to do generic compilations from source...EDIT: Just found
