Belated "hi everyone"
« on: August 27, 2009, 05:31:54 am »

Hi everybody,

"Ich bin ein Berliner" and have been running VL Light 6.0 on my old Dell Latitude C610 laptop for a fortnight now. I've tried a number of distros before finally going for VL: xubuntu, Zenwalk, DSL, Puppy. While xubuntu was simply too slow, I quite liked Zenwalk (although I ran into troubles with Amarok soon). DSL was just not my look and feel, though incredibly fast and I almost stuck with Puppy, if it hadn't been for their pathetic (my impression) repos.

So, now, VL Light 6.0. Fast enough for my taste, had few problems, the Linux newbie that I am, no probs with wifi drivers, OOo 3.0 installable (although I need to find out where to get a different version than the dev...), great customizability, and A GREAT COMMUNITY (def. kudos to nightflier, GrannyGeek and M0E-lnx) with quick, patient and knowledgable responses.

Until I can afford a new laptop with sufficient speed and RAM for more feisty distros, I'll stick with VL Light. And will find out next how to do generic compilations from source...

EDIT: Just found http://forum.vectorlinux.com/index.php?topic=539.0, to my immense joy! One more thing ticked off the to-do-list.

Hello;
Here is a belated welcome then.  Let us know if you have anything else on your to do list?  Great community here, as you have already noted.

I set up Amarok on VL-light.  Just to let you know there is a couple extra steps, here to. Just post any questions.

Hi Henry X Crudos

it is good to see that there are other new people to Vector Linux, and it is not abandoned and unused.  I am very new myself.  You seem to have tried out a lot of distros.  Myself I only tried Redhat about 8 years ago, and Solaris a few times - (not a real Linux at all).

Thanks everybody. I think I really caught the Vector bug on top of the Linux bug. Will turn into Captain Spock soon, I'm afraid :D.

"Live long and prosper"....

Welcome to Vector Linux.  I've discovered that I like it so much,..I've put it on my main computers.  No need for any of the "big" linux distros. (I happen to really like "small--fast--no-nonsense--fully loaded". )

The fact that "this topic has not been posted in for at least 120 days." speaks for itself.
This is just to say "I'm back" :).

I've been busy with university stuff and personal things, and have had very little time for all things Linux.
Hopefully this'll change now and I'll have the odd opportunity to post here again every now and then and take more care of my wee blog again, not to speak of packaging a little.

Ah, I've missed it!

ghdfans2010..
Hello there!  Come on in and make yourself at home.  Which version of Vector are you using?  I've got good 'ol Vector 6.0 Standard (can't hardly wait until the "7" comes out officially).
EDIT: btw....that signature of yours seems a wee bit (shall we say) "scammmy"?  Anyhow,..the links just lead to "address not found".
