The Vector Linux team is happy to announce Vector Linux 6.0 Light LIVE.

This version is intended as a preview of the traditional installable release. It closely mirrors the original VL Light, but some packages have been added or upgraded, including the 2.6.27.29 kernel.

This is a great way to test Vector before committing to a hard drive install.
For us who already use it, our favorite OS is now portable.
Another practical use is as a live toolbox for troubleshooting and/or repair.
There is a boot option for using as a rescue disc for a previously installed system.
Re-mastering VL Live has been made easy for those who want their very own, personalized version.

Download your copy here:
http://vectorlinux.osuosl.org/veclinux-6.0/iso-release/VL6.0-Light-LIVE-Final.iso
md5sum: 25de906155b9e8464ca82afa7efe34cb
The password for both "root" and the "vl" account is: vector

Feedback is welcome in this thread:

A big "Thank You" to all involved in the making of this release.

Have some fun, make your own personal version:

You will need a partition on your hard drive, at least 4.5 GB in size.
Boot the LiveCD. Log out of "vl", and in to the root account.
Use the the "vliveinstaller" launcher on the desktop. Follow the prompts.
Prepare your partition. It needs to be formatted manually.
Remember to click "Apply" before closing the partitioning tool.
Allow the install to complete. You can skip the LILO installation.
Reboot using the Live CD, select the "Boot VL installed... " option.
Press Tab to edit the entry to point to the partition you used.
Log in as root. Run command "startx".
While running off the hard drive, make the changes you want.
Use the "vmklive" launcher on the desktop.
Go to dinner.
Find your custom ISO in the /tmp dir.
Burn it to a blank disc.
Enjoy your creation.

The requested URL /veclinux-6.0/iso-release/VL6.0-Light-LIVE-Final.iso was not found on this server.

There is a "VL6.0-Light-LIVE.iso" but has a different md5 than listed above: 9a44c0de69f525178a2a48522945b1a3

That was the old pre-release. I verified the the link by downloading and checking md5sum. I wonder if you could be looking at a cached copy of the site.

Try this more direct link:

It must be a cached copy. The direct link you posted seems to be working though.
Thanks for the updated link, and thanks for your (and everyones) hard work on this release - it's fantastic!
Cheers,

Does it support "boot from iso" cheatcode as other Slack derivatives?

Hi Forum

Does VectorLinux has support for amd64/x86-64 architectures...?

I understand this is a fast, streamlined distro, and i inted to use it in heavy number-crunching applications, like structural engineering optimization, Finite Elements Analysis, and Computational Fluid Dynamics, most of the aplications that I use are compiled from source, and I plan tu run them in a computer with 32 GB memory, so 32 bit pointers are not an option, because they won't access more than  3.2 GB of memory...

Is there any 64bit release of VectorLinux....?

BRGDS

The boot options can be found in the iso, in the file "VL6.0-Light-LIVE/bootparams.txt".

64 bit is currently in Alpha stage, and development is taking a back seat to the upcoming SOHO version.
