Lately, may be as lately as the new kernel was installed, I cannot run ./configure
any longer for instaling new programs.

./configure stops now at:
.....snip....
checking whether gcc accepts -g... yes
checking for gcc option to accept ISO C89... none needed
checking how to run the C preprocessor... /lib/cpp
configure: error: C preprocessor "/lib/cpp" fails sanity check
See `config.log' for more details.

The C preprocessor "/lib/cpp" fails sanity check.

How will I get that 'sanity' back?

Edit:

Had to edit /usr/include/bits/local_lim.h
