well, not much activity here - I wonder why....

maybe no one is testing....

I installed on my #2 workstation a week ago. It is an IBM Thinkpad T22 (P III mobile 900 MHz / 512 MB RAM). After installation I 'gslapted' the danish language pack for KDE, and I must say that the looks of this is absolutely stunning - VERY NICE, THIS IS REALLY WORTH THE EFFORT - THANK YOU DEVELOPERS.

I have a little problem though, I am a chess addict, so I play a lot on a danish chess site. The chessboard is a java applet, and it seems to initiate ok, I get my position, but after moving, the applet seems to halt. Is my old laptop to weak to handle this?

The Java package in this version is getting a little old, that may be an issue. If you post a link to the site you're talking about, I'll give it a test.

I registered as nightflier at eskak.dk. Can't find a "test" feature. Could you give me some pointers? I can read the language okay.

I have seen your user on eskak, but I am unable to send you a challenge, I guess you answered 'Nej' to accept challenges - You may challenge me - here is how to do it:

1) click on 'Bruger-liste' on the top left menu
2) sort by points
3) I am second form the top on the list (not due to great skills, but a lot of played games)
4) Click on my name and you will see my profile
5) click on the challenge (udfordre) button on the right side of the screen
6) specify terms: time, number of games etc. and click send

I will receive the challenge and this one I will accept right away!

See you soon on eskak!

- You may challenge me -

Hansken er kastet!

Edit: After a few tests I found that the java applet works fine on two of my P4 class computers. Except that I lost all the games!

Filesharing has been a challenge for me with 6.0 standard. So I took a look at it here.

1. I can not find samba daemon as a service I can start in vasmCC --> Services -->Services
2. I can not connect to Swat through VasmCC
3. I can not set up a samba share throught the filemanager
4. There is only a smb.conf-sample in the /etc/samba/folder.

I'm going to test compiz next, as I have had to do a fix after installing on Standard.

Took a look at Compiz installation and performance.
This beta has the same problem as VL-6.0 standard.  You need to remove a line from /etc/profile.d/vasm.sh inorter to see the window decorations.
Fixing the missing title bar in compiz

Thank's.  I'm pretty stoked about this kde-classic release.  I it will offer an option for those who want to stick with Vector, but want an easier way to share files than what the current standard release provides.  Plus it's been ages since we have had a release announcement on distrowatch.
If classic can become a regular item I will attempt to make some tut's on it as well.

This release embodies my dream distro! One small bug so far: Ksysguard crashes. Actually is pops up a message, something like "lost connection to localhost" and it cannot display any processes, memory and cpu usage, etc. Only tried it on one machine so far. Cannot say whether the ksysguard issue is with the hardware, or the software. Test machine specs as follows:

Asus K8V-SE Deluxe MB
AMD Athlon 64 3700+ cpu (clawhammer)
2 gig RAM
120 gig Seagate SATA HD
GeForce 6200
LiteON IDE DVD Burner
Floppy Drive

I took VL6 classic off of this machine and installed VL 591 SOHO instead, and Ksysguard works perfect, so I am thinking that it is not my machine. Still, a great distro!!

I can't remember if I've ever seen the sound mixer icon on this panel.  I seem to try and add it each time I start.  I went into remove applet from panel and I had 4 instances of 'Sound Mixer' there, but still nothing that could be seen on the panel.

I was having trouble with ksysguard losing connection to localhost on two different test machines. This basically rendered ksysguard useless as there was no data displayed. So I started over with a basic install of VL6 Gold, and then added all the KDE 3.5.9 packages myself with Gslapt. Avoiding 3.5.10 packages for now. Upon completion, ksysguard now functions perfectly from my self-compiled KDE.

In regard to a mixer icon, I just launched Kmix and it put the volume icon in my taskbar and it is persistent; returns there on every reboot.

Recap: the VL6 KDE Classic Beta 2 with KDE 3.5.10 ksysguard is broken. However adding 3.5.9 KDE packages to a base install of VL6 Gold seemed to have resulted in a more stable system.

BTW I had to get VASM frontend from Gslapt after I added the 3.5.9 packages. Could still run VASM from terminal however. Just had no VASMCC until I fetched it. Overall a good release. Can't wait for the final. I'd even pay for it.
