Hi all
So far, I have got the sound working and the nvidia driver is working so I am a relatively happy bunny.

I am running an Acer Aspire 9301AWSMI 17" laptop
The o/p of DMESG is

usb-storage: device scan complete
fuse init (API version 7.9)
usb 1-2: new high speed USB device using ehci_hcd and address 5
usb 1-2: configuration #1 chosen from 1 choice
dib0700: loaded with support for 7 different device-types
dvb-usb: found a 'Hauppauge Nova-T Stick' in cold state, will try to load a firmware
firmware: requesting dvb-usb-dib0700-1.10.fw
dvb-usb: did not find the firmware file. (dvb-usb-dib0700-1.10.fw) Please see linux/Documentation/dvb/ for more details on firmware-problems. (-2)
usbcore: registered new interface driver dvb_usb_dib0700

So I obviously need drivers of some sort.

If I try slapt-get, I get the following message
Reading Package Lists... Done
No such package: dvb-usb-dib0700-1.10.fw
0 upgraded, 0 newly installed, 0 to remove and 0 not upgraded.

Previously I used Kaffeine in Ubuntu, but this comes with a load of stuff for KDE I don't need, or want.

Can anyone suggest an alternative

Many thanks in advance for any assistance

Just FYI here, our package naming convention is package-version-arch-build.tlz so a package would be named like foo-1.0-i586-1vl60.tlz . Try searching for "dvb" (without the quotes) in Gslapt/slapt-get.
The following sentence is true. The previous sentence is false.

You could try tvtime.  It's not in the repositories, but has one that works.

TvTime 1.0.2.
