SeaMonkey query (RESOLVED)
« on: September 16, 2009, 07:07:16 pm »

I began to try SeaMonkey today, now that I'm feeling a bit more familiar with Vector. Is it possible to change the default search engine from google to scroogle ? I tried to modify the browser search settings through about:config, but didn't have much luck.

Hi flip city, I'm sorry not to have responded to your query sooner.

It's possible to do what you want. I prefer scroogle's ssl version.

For the scroogle ssl search plugin, go to: http://incognu.com/smhax.xhtml and look for the scroogle ssl searchplugin.

For about:config, this seems to work for me (going by what I have set in a 2.0 build):
filter for "keyword"
set:
Code: [Select]
keyword.URL https://ssl.scroogle.org/cgi-bin/nbbw.cgi?q=filter for "search"
set these:
Code: [Select]
browser.search.defaultengine engine:///<set to path to ssl-scroogle.src> (it will be in your ~/.mozilla profile directory)
Code: [Select]
browser.search.defaultenginename Scroogle
browser.search.defaulturl https://ssl.scroogle.org/cgi-bin/nbbw.cgi?q=

OK...here's the conclusion...updated SeaMonkey to 2.0 then added the scroogle search plugin; modified the values in (about:config) according to Incognu's code script. click search...NO JOY...yet!
Using medit I modified the Scroogle-ssl.src file so that the entry now reads as : searchForm = "https://ssl.scroogle.org/"; instead of what it was by default.
don't forget to : edit>preferences>navigator>internet search - set for scroogle!
Now when the search button is clicked there is...ABUNDANT JOY...scroogle search page!!

my kind thanks to Incognu for the helpful suggestions.

WHY USE SCROOGLE? https://ssl.scroogle.org/sslnote.html

PS this will also work for SeaMonkey 1.1.18

Glad you got it working!

Dunno about the Scroogle-ssl.src  ... it works from the urlbar ok for me without changing it, using the search-button and the keyword thingy.
