libc.so.6(GLIBC_2.8)
« on: October 21, 2009, 11:40:50 am »
Hi,
I would appreciate a libc.so.6(GLIBC_2.8) version. The version in vl6 standard is 2.7.

Note: In here...
libc.so.6(GLIBC_2.8) version.

That's libc.so.6( GLIBC_2.8 ). When the "8" and the ")" are put together, it makes this: 8)
The following sentence is true. The previous sentence is false.

VL 6.0 SOHO KDE-Classic on 2.3 Ghz Dual-core AMD with 3 Gigs of RAM

Seems that glibc2.8 is required for a number of current applications.
I am trying to build the gimp2.7 from svn, ( upgraded babl and gegl ok) but glib2 seems to be a problem.

checking for GLIB - version >= 2.18.0... no.

I spotted the below on a slackware forum:-

I had to upgrade glib to 2.8.6, so I uninstalled the package glib2 (not
glib!), downloaded the sources for glib 2.8.6 and repackages it as
glib2. Then gimp compiled smoothly.
However using gslapt to uninstall glib2 shows that its going to delete half of my system (so I stopped there). Infact this seems to be the case for removing number of apps?
I would appreciate any helpful advise.

Yes, removing packages with gslapt can be dangerous. Use command line:
removepkg glib2

there is pretty much no good way to upgrade glibc2.
it is NOT the same as glib2, which is another pkg that is not easily upgraded.
your best bet is to move to a newer OS.

Just when is vector 6.1 due?
I kinda like vector, and have a really fast setup so wont be moving on too soon.
It does look like gimp 2.7>2.8 is based on the newer libs though.
Would making a system link be a work around for the moment?

you can try building glib2 with the sources found here: http://slackware.osuosl.org/slackware-current/source/l/glib2/
download everything in that folder and run the glib2.SlackBuild file.

if it builds ok you will have a new glib2 pkg in /tmp
