Installed Compiz Fusion But It Won't Work [SOLVED]

In the terminal:

I would think that a log like that would end up somewhere in /var rather than /usr, but I've been wrong manymanymanymany times before.

As root, try finding that file: find / -name *fglrx-install.log*
This should list any directories where a file of that name is found, hopefully it comes back with just one directory. If it does then you can try reading the file with something like (use appropriate path of course):
less /directory/that/find/returned

No. Exactly as newt typed it. You can copy the line, then paste it into a terminal with key combination Shift-Insert.

It's really just a matter of finding the file and reading it. You can manually navigate to /usr/share/ati in a file manager.

Still, as uelsk8s said, your card and current kernel combination is not supported directly. You will need to do some manual tweaking of the code to get the module to compile.

I tried copying find / -name *fglrx-install.log* in the terminal and pressed enter and nothing happened.

I tried to find it in the file manager and got this:

The file or folder file:///usr/share/ati/fglrx/-install-log does not exist.

I tried it with /var as newt suggested and got this:

The file or folder file:///var/share/ati/fglrx/-install-log does not exist.

How do I manually tweak the code to get the module to compile, please?

Though I am not trying to install Compiz Fusion, I am following this thread as I am stuck with VESA on my IBM T42 running Vector 6.0.

I show the following:

"01:00.0 VGA compatible controller: ATI Technologies Inc Radeon Mobility M7 LW [Radeon Mobility 7500]"

xorg.conf shows "radeon" as driver.

The bottom part of fglrx-install.log shows

  LD [M]  /lib/modules/fglrx/build_mod/2.6.x/fglrx.ko

You must change your working directory to /lib/modules/fglrx
and then call ./make_install.sh in order to install the built module.
- recreating module dependency list
- trying a sample load of the kernel modules
failed.
[Error] Kernel Module : Failed to install compiled kernel module - please consult readme."

Actually fglrx goes through the GUI ATI install without showing any errors.  However when I continue through the vxconf program, following my selection of the video monitor (1024x786), it errors out "There was an error in your X configuration."

Okay, thank you very much again. So tried that (in the terminal) and it seemed to work except I still get a white screen when I try compiz fusion.

you will have to change your driver to radeonhd in /etc/X11/xorg.conf
