I have an Asus V2-M3N8200 desktop machine. It has an Nvidia GeForce 8200 chipset, an AMD Phenome CPU, 1 GB DDR-II RAM, a Western Digital 160 GB SATA hard disk and a Samsung SATA DVD-RW unit. My problem is that when I try to install Vector Linux 5.9 from a CD, the installer aborts with an error message saying that no hard disk was found. I have previously used this CD to install VL on other machines w/o problems.
The HDD appears to be OK, I was able to access it and create a primary partition using 'fdisk' (from a WinME startup CD). I tried to set "Enhanced mode SATA only" in the BIOS (as suggested by the Installation Guide), but the machine's BIOS (American Megatrends, v2.61) does not have such an option (only SATA, RAID and AHCI modes are offered under 'Storage config -> SATA controller').
I would appreciate getting some help. Thanks!
