Packages and Building from Source
« on: December 05, 2006, 09:29:53 am »

There was an excellent thread on the first VL forum on packages and building from source. It's a bit dated in a couple of respects, but most of the points of that thread are still very useful. Here is a link to that thread from the first VL forum: http://www.ibiblio.org/vectorlinux/forum/viewtopic.php?t=325

I hope it's helpful.

I have also found this website usefull when I encounter compiling problems:

http://cblfs.cross-lfs.org/index.php/Main_Page

It contains a vast database of compiling procedures for nearly as many opensource project as you can imagine.
Some apps require specific build flags, that are not always listed in the README files.
