Hello All,
When trying to install guest additions, it tells me "install the build and header"...
What's missing, and how do I install it?

Thanks!

Find out which kernel version you're running (uname -a)
download the "kernel-src" package for your kernel version from here ftp://ftp-osl.osuosl.org/pub/vectorlinux/veclinux-6.0/kernels/

use installpkg to install it and try again.

OK...
I ran "-uname -a" and it tells me 2.6.27.12
I go to the website and download the "kernel-src-2.6.27.12-i686-1vl60.tlz"
I then run the command "installpkg /home/omer/Downloads/kernel-src-2.6.27.12-i686-1vl60.tlz  "

it starts, says "installing..." and nothing happens.  just hangs.
What am I doing wrong?

BTW - I'm running VL 6 lite inside virtualbox, which is installed on Win7 - if that helps

Make sure you run installpkg as root
It will take a couple of seconds to extact the kernel source... it's a good 50mb or so...

It will tell you when it is done installing.

OK, I did all that
Now when I rebooted I get "loading linuxEBDA is big: kernel setup stack overlaps LILO second stage" and it stops...
Help!

Thanks..

What?
Here is how you install vbox additions
1) install kernel sources (You should have done this at install time anyway)
2) Click Devices -> Install guest additions
3) mount your virtual CDrom (mount /dev/hdc /mnt/hdc)
3) Execute the installer (cd /mnt/hdc && ./VBoxLinuxAdditions-x86.run)

It has nothing to do with lilo.

Solved:
reinstalled linux - this time I included the "source" bulk + installed (slapt-get) "make"
==> guestadditions installs correctly
