Just found out you can download VL isos from Mininova: http://www.mininova.org/search/?search=vector+linuxIf you know of any other bittorrent feeds for VL isos, please post them to this thread. I will add them to the first post, or remove them if they are later found to be dead by someone (so please post that info too). |

great. You can add the file to many many trackers,guys. =) Why not use http://linuxtracker.org/Also,you can combine both ftp,http and bittorent downloading by creating a metalink of the file. This is helpful for people with slower connection. http://www.metalinker.org/ =) |

I have loaded VL5.8 Standard Gold on a P200 machine with 128MB RAM and it worked fine. But with only 2.5GB of hard drive space you will have to exclude some of the packages. I suggest excluding browsers you don't need, maybe the Gimp, the kernel source, etc and it should then fit in 2.5GB of space. You only need 256MB of swap space with that amount of RAM. If you really want an older version of VL get them here: http://vectorlinux.osuosl.org/ (that link by the way is on our webpage, under downloads). |

I think you should be able to install 5.9 on that hardware, if you omit some package selections during installation. Some older versions are still available though, and you can locate them by going to http://vectorlinux.com/ and navigate to the downloads page. Check the mirrors list too, while you're there. A confused N00B here ... what's the difference between Deluge and Metalink, which has 'GetItRight' and 'DownThemAll' <- and are those also bit-torrents? do we have a how2 here on this? Although I understand the principle, Bit torrent seems alien to an old Windows user like me.  thanks - Howard PS - many of the links above in this thread are now dead... |
