« on: January 07, 2010, 09:41:28 pm »

Can someone help me with kdenlive install with vectorlinux? http://www.kdenlive.org/

I'm not sure if I can use the slack build package or what I should do.

Thanks,

Steven

Are you planning to put it on VL standard?  I've been working on it, and I've got it launching but it crashes immediately.  I should have time to play with it again on Friday.  For what it is worth, the slackware 13.0 packages work very well on VL soho 6.0, beta.

Hi Haywire;
Got some thing you might like.  A nice shiny new kdenlive.  Custom built on your Vector machine.
There is a catch, when I created the package(s) I created tutorials of how you can do it your self, instead of uploading them to the repository.

There is 5 items to be packaged you can find them all here....5 steps to kdenlive on your Vectorlinux box.

It's a bit of work, but ooooh, it's so shiney and new. ;D
Have fun.

Yeah.. I built this on vl 6 SOHO beta, it's a pita to build all those things with specific configure options, but kdenlive has got to be the best app I tried in its field.

I agree.  It really is a great app for kde inclusion. Are you guys going to try to make it part of the Soho release?

Not really. I just needed it because my wife kept using windows movie maker, and I needed to show her a linux alternative.

kdenlive is as good as it gets in that division.

I tried again but I can not get this working, I think I'm just not understanding something...

Can anyone package this so it can install through gslapt?

If someone does this, I will donate some money to vector, whatever you decide thats worth.

I really would love to get this working, then I can format my windows partition completely and never have to reboot again!

I think this package would work as well or better than what I am using on windows, but its hard to tell without it working.

I'd love cinellera or this... Could not get either working.

Anyone ?

I guess I can try to give this a go again next week when I have more time, but I think this should be packaged and put in the repositories
so anyone can install it from gslapt, we need this app!

Well, I sure need it...

Third attempt and I can't get this to build. This is a bit too advanced for someone like me, who has barely compiled simple programs on linux.

Too many pieces of this. I am a bit saddened by not getting this going on vector, mostly because on ubuntu it installs in one click.
I don't want to switch to ubuntu just for this, cinelerra and ardour... Well ardour I finally got going and working...

No go on cinelerra or kdenlive. Kind of frustrated because on ubuntu its much easier to get the programs you need working.

These are the only two things I've had such trouble with, everything else has been very easy to get going.

I've managed to put both kdenlive and openshot video editor together on my VL-Standard box.  Kdenlive, is a bit buggy on Standard, but works very well on the new Soho.  Since I'm not a KDE guy and have been sticking with standard I have gravitated to openshot video editor.  I'll try and get it into the repository by next week-end.  I've just got to work out a tricky bit that makes it a little harder to package than some.

I would be very thankful if you can package any of them for gslapt install.

I actually just installed ubuntu 10.04 beta on a spare machine and I absolutely hate it. Great, lots of programs will install in one click but I can't stand gnome, I don't get what all the hype about ubuntu is either, because it seems to run like shit on two machines I tried it on, everything is very slow.

Click to start an app, wait 30-40 seconds, and thats under no load, on a 2ghz machine...Maybe the beta is still crappy or something I don't know.

MAYBE If I can remove gnome and use xfce I can stand using this, but I really don't think I like it at all. Just about every linux distro I ever tried except for vector I hated. Puppy is nice so fast but forget installing any applications...

My vectorlinux machine is just so customized to the way I work, I absolutely love it and the thought of being stuck in ubuntu just because I really need some video apps... well that just sucks.

Today I'm going to try and figure out how to remove gnome and install xfce.

Not sure whether you're aware that Ubuntu is also offered as xfce-only: Xubuntu. See http://www.xubuntu.com .

Slightly lighter/faster, but often packages just add back what you didn't want in the first place. Since you've a new install with nothing to lose, give it a look. It ain't vector, but gives you something else to look at.
