I am also new to Vector, using it on a desktop pc, the convenience from this distro is miles better then ubuntu, I used to be a pclinuxos ( fan due to the way it looked and responded, but not anymore, I have a wireless usb adapter Zyxel air G 202 to connect to a BT homehub

the drivers from the cd work perfect with ndiswrapper, this is the first distro that worked well with this type of wifi usb adapter, so I guess this is something you can try, if normal usb work with your netbook
so I would say, spend £ 12 on such an adapter. it's worth it

after installing the drivers, you can create a connection with vlwifi, etc

good luck
