slapt-get [RESOLVED]
« on: January 27, 2010, 11:57:04 pm »
Hi to all,

something went terribly wrong while in gslapt. was trying to remove openssh and 2 other related packages, after hitting execute it began to remove 240 packages !! WHOA !! I was unable to stop the process normally, so I quickly restarted my pc. Fortunately I don't think too many packages were removed. the last one I noticed was abiword. so now I cannot start gslapt or Vector control center, from the desktop icons. Is there a command using slapt-get that would show the recently removed packages so I can reinstall them ? OR is there something else I should be doing ? :o

I duplicated your attempt to remove openssh, just long enough to get a snapshot of what it was planning to remove.  Let's hope it was working in order and you can try reinstalling with slapt-get the packages from the top down. (see attached picture)

Reinstalled the removed packages using (as root) slapt-get --install [name of removed package]. All went well and back to hack !!

Your experience illustrates why some of us suggest not using gslapt or slapt-get for removing packages. Attempting to remove one may take out a bunch of others and destroy your system.

It's safer to use
removepkg nameofpackage

which will remove just the one you want to remove and leave its relatives and dependencies alone.
