Audio CD won't play - SOLVED
« on: February 16, 2010, 11:55:24 am »

Vector Linux Light on a Pentium III 665 MHz desktop.

Audio CDs aren't being recognised or played. Video CDs will play, with sound, and the tracks on my USB memory stick will play.
Now, this probably is a dumb question, could this be because I haven't got a sound card? I have a little USB sound stick which is adequate for my requirements, but the sound card seems to have been the one thing the previous owner thought worth salvaging.

Any suggestions?

Susan

Have you tried Xine (on the Multimedia menu)? Insert the disc, wait a few seconds, then press the "CD" button on the GUI.

Xine didn't work so I tried the tutorial  but following the instructions didn't made any difference. However it did get me into the preferences so I could look at the configuration.

When I tried 'check drive' I gotan error message
"Failed to open device /dev/cdrom
Error: No such file or directory"

I have now searched /dev and found a file /cdrw2 and tried this in the configuration - this works.
It will now open from the desktop icon.

I still have only one drive working so far but that's good enough.

Thanks for the help.
