I'm looking to burn avi files to dvds so that I can play on a dvd player. I need to free up some space on my hard drive.  Ive used kino but it takes to long.  I don't want to edit or anything. I just want to burn the video as is so it will play.  Menus could be good so I can put multiple videos on one dvd but its not that big of deal since the cost of dvds are almost nothing.

I've always been partial to K3b. Lots of options and I rarely have any issues with writing to CDs or DVDs.

Thats what I like to use too. I can burn a dvd with no problems and play on my computer but not on my dvd player.

You'll need to look up the specifications for your DvD player and find out what format it prefers, then set K3b to write in the format.

To play on a regular DVD player, the files would need to be transcoded to mpeg-2 (DVD standard) and burned using a DVD disc structure. I see "dvdauthor" in the repo. Haven't tried it myself, though. Any time you transcode video, expect some quality loss.
