New Linux-compatible laptop?

I'm looking for a new laptop. I want to be able to run VL on it however, I will also need to have Win 7 on it. Does anyone have some recommendations for a good linux-compatible laptop? I have seen the linux hardware compatibility lists on Tuxmobile and LinuxQuestions but they seem to not have some of the more recent laptops listed.

I have a Toshiba P305D that I paid $500 for at Wally World. It runs very well on Win 7 and even better on VL.

The only two things that are an issue with me on this one is the smallish hard drive and the video adapter. I game on this notebook as well, and there are times I'd really like to play with the video settings at their max. Not going to happen with an ATI x1250! 

But.. It's been a solid performer. I've had it almost a year now, and I've pretty much used it as a desktop replacement. It originally came with Vista, which I promply ripped out and installed Win 7 RC. I've since updated that to the full blown version of Win 7 and I haven't looked back since.

VL 6 Standard screams on this thing, and SOHO 6 Beta 4.2 runs like a champ as well. (Running both on an external 320GB drive.)

You probably should try to define your wishes a little better, if you do that you can search for a laptop that matches your needs / wishes. Right now, all I can say is: my laptop (the one in the signature) works just dandy with both VL and win 7.

What is the full product number for that? There are several P305D's. I would think that they are all pretty similar but... BTW, did the wireless networking work too? That is a major requirement for me.

It's a P305D-S8995E. Wireless was detected and running a lot faster in VL 6 than Windows 7. 

I can even do some gaming on it (WoW and LOTRO), but at the lowest video settings.

Hmm... According to the Toshiba website, the P300 series is no longer available. I am going to look at Toshiba's in general though.

While Toshiba themselves may not sell it directly, I'm sure you'll be able to find one elsewhere, particularly at a "big box" retailer such as Costco, WalMart, etc.

I've been very happy with mine overall.

And may I also suggest a Swiss Gear backpack to go along with it? I balked initially at the price, but man, was I ever glad I pulled the trigger on buying one. It's huge, stores the notebook AND cooler easily, along with a myriad of other goodies.

One more thing, did the webcam work? (with VL?)

Haven't tried it. I rarely use the thing, even under windows.

Edit -- Just tried the Webcam app in 6 Standard. It worked.

I have had great luck with HP, Dell and IBM laptops and netbooks.

A broadcom-wireless card is always a mess. Yes it works in VL, but it's slow and haven't have a good range.
You pretty always have to configure it by yourself.
