Author Topic: Using Openbox - Which Xfce Files are Safe to Uninstall  (Read 2248 times)

Ive decided to make openbox my normal window manager, but I have a few questions:

1) Which Xfce files are safe to install? I tried removing all of Xfce but then my computer refised to boot up Vector Linux properly, complaining about missing GTK files. (I didnt remove any GTK files, I just opened GSlapt and removed 'Xfce').

2) Do I have to edit a file or anything to tell Vector Linux that I want to use Openbox as default instead of Xfce?

3) Is it possible to use SLiM or XDM instead of GDM? (I think Vector uses GDM by default, I could be wrong though).

Any help is greatly appreciated.

gslapt isn't very picky about what it removes when you tell it to uninstall something. Chances are, it will go in and remove the dependencies as well. This is why you ended up with missing dependency files.

A better way to remove something is to use removepkg, and remove just the packages you wish to uninstall.
