After multiple KDE "crashes" I decided to reload 4.4.1 even though with the first and now the second install all went as it should - no problems. I was considering what GG has done by using a different window manager. After running my customization script and updating/adding from the repos I noted that from last night and this morning that starting a WinXP virtualization (VBox) that it crashed KDE before XP would get to the desktop. Then after church I tried again and it worked. The only thing different was the gkrellm was not running. I tested this and with gkrellm 2.3.1 (latest available from gslapt) running I get random closures of KDE with the syslog message I posted earlier. Needless to say I'm not using gkrellm for the time being. Perhaps conky will suffice.

Is that with a wired or wireless connection? Testing the last beta, I found that with a wired connection, I was connected before Wicd even came up with the prompt to provide the root password, so I suspect that its not doing a whole lot for a wired connection.

Paul.

Strictly wireless for me. I'm in a different building from where the modem and router resides.

KAudioCreator seems to be borked. Selecting the program results in a message stating that no encoding method has been selected, and to select one in the configuration. However, once the program comes up, you're not able to select anything that would allow you to do this.

Menu items are still acting flakey, but I did manage to add a menu button that allows me to get into the settings and at least rip a CD.

When I tried to start Inkscape I got messages about missing libraries (about 4). I had upgraded ImageMagick through Gslapt before I tried to start Inkscape, but I don't know why the upgrade would remove the earlier libraries. I copied the libraries and symlinks from my VL6 partition on the same drive and once they were all in SOHO, Inkscape started as expected.

I didn't find the libraries in my earlier SOHO partition, but I don't think I used Inkscape while I was testing the earlier SOHO (the version before the one right before 4-4.1).

I tried to start KWord a few times and it crashed before loading. I didn't understand the messages but "segmentation fault" did appear.

Bonjour!Vector,

so far on beta4.4.1, rtl8187 usb wifi's still not functional normally as under mandriva2010, INTERNET droped always after 10 secs. connection.
while if switchING to another wifi router WHICH'S NOT MADE IN EVIL CINA, rtl8187 works perfect with wireless internet, sadly on market it's not easy to pruchase quality wifi router(meets ITU standard) made in japan/korea/vietnam/malaysia/EU....
Pls. Do make a better Kernel patches for rtl8187 wifi usb kit in next testing release!

you see under mandriva2010, just adding following line into /etc/modprobe:
-------------------------------------------------------------------
options mac80211 ieee80211_default_rc_algo=pid
alias wlan0 rtl8187
-------------------------------------------------------------------
then rtl8187 wifi usb works just flawlessly almost,no matter how weak the signal is as long as signal level's over 50% ...applied the same commands into vector b441 just no success at all.

I'm sure it resulted from problematic kernel in beta 441.

B4.4.1 installs fine. But....
I also get:
Quote
Wicd even came up with the prompt to provide the root password
at start.
and trying to connect using wcid it couldn't find a connection. I tried using Vlwifi from vasm, which sets up ok but at the end can't find the essid address. This happened on previous beta's too, what I did was complie my own Kernel, then it all worked fine. Actually on the latest kernel updates( in the repo) for VL6 std gold I got the same and had to compile my own Kernel. I am using usb zydas Zd1211rw.

Good wishes to developers.

Get the same with KSpread.

Yes, KSpread also crashed for me while trying to start. I tried KWord and KSpread under the KDE desktop just in case something in XFce was causing a problem. They won't start under either desktop. Konqueror and Dolphin are working and I've done a few scans under Skanlite.

Received the dbus error again when wicd was starting up. Strange thing is, there's really nothing in wicd.log that shows anything going awry.

When I hit that error, I also got a message saying that the wicd daemon had quit. Didn't have a connection at that stage, so I don't know for sure whether the connection would have worked or not.

Oddly enough, it works ok now - haven't used the beta much, but other than entering the root password, I've not had any repetition of the wicd d-bus error.

I don't get it that often. I just checked the logs and found this:

Code:
03/30/10 06:06:40 am vector avahi-daemon[3720] WARNING: No NSS support for mDNS detected, consider installing nss-mdns!
03/30/10 06:06:49 am vector dhcpcd[3677] timed out waiting for a valid DHCP server response

When everything works well (no dbus error) I don't have that in the system log. Hmmmmmmmmmmm........

d-bus has reared its ugly head again, only with KMix this time. Tried to run it as a user, nada. Nothing happened. Opened a terminal, bugged to root, typed kmix and received:

Code:
root:# kmix
<unknown program name>(11396)/: KUniqueApplication: Cannot find the D-Bus session server:  "Did not receive a reply. Possible causes include: the remote application did not send a reply, the message bus security policy blocked the reply, the reply timeout expired, or the network connection was broken."

<unknown program name>(11395)/: KUniqueApplication: Pipe closed unexpectedly.
