Well,

1.  Connect the modulator to the demodulator.
2.  Disconnect the demodulator.
3.  Take one gallon Diesel #2.
4.  Pour on your computer.
5.  Strike a match.
6.  Light the diesel oil.
7.  Drink three shots of bourbon while computer cools.
8.  Reboot.
9.  Take another three shots of bourbon.
10.  Try your mobo again.

Smiley A little more information would be useful....

1 What make of NIC is it?
2 What drivers have loaded?
3 Are the link lights on the motherboard backplane lit (I'm assuming its a wired rather than wireless connection)?
4 What does ifconfig say?

Paul.

Steps 7 & 9 worked well. Had some difficulty, though with the other steps. Old Forester. Cheap and so smooth !

1.PCI Express gigabit
2.RTL 8111/8168B
3. yes
4. does not read inet add; brodcast add; or mask.

I am able to connect through other distros. only Vector is problematic.

Can you ping your router or other machine?
What is your DNS setting?

The output from the following commands would be helpful:

lspci -v
lsmod
ifconfig -a

Also, is your network static or dynamic (i.e. dhcp)?

Last, have you attempted to set up a network profile using the wicd client? If so, what kind of connection information does it provide?

ps network is dhcp. wicd client was not cooperative.
