Evidently there is a bug with 2wire and linux. as I have a friend who uses ATT which gave him a 2wire router/modem.

he wanted to play with *nix so I installed VL-KDE classic for him. but there is a problem.

wired - it connects to router, and can access the net.
wireless - it connects to the router, but can not access the net.

Win/Mac there is no problem both will connect to the router and net.

just to make sure its not just his machine or a VL problem. i got my lappy and tryed it with ubuntu, debian and mandriva and same thing. ethernet connects to router and the net. but wireless can connect to the router but will not pass on to the net.

any ideas of a fix?

First if you can route traffic via ethernet then the connection is fine.

Now the only attempts that you have mentioned at fixing anything
was trying different distros.

Please check your route and DNS. Results from ping testing would
also help.

The obvious start of testing being checking the interface and that
the interface are working is currently assumed.

If the wired interface has access to the www, then the wireless should definitely work.
I dont think it's a bug in the router, but rather the settings either at the router or at the client machine.

I have a 2wire but different firmware (4.x.x). I have not had any issues until VL6. VL5.x worked well with it but quit trying during VL6std testing as I was never able to connect. As you have stated I have no issues wired (VL or Win) or with Vista/7 (wireless). I'll check into it again this weekend.

I was able to connect to my 2Wire router using VL6 Standard. I previously had not been able to (when std was first released) but had no issues now. I must have failed to blacklist the ssb module (causes problems for the broadcom 4328 controller I have).
