well got tired of the problems with my on board card. so i disabled it and grabbed a older card i had in the closet and tossed it in.

VL reconizes it, but got errors

Sound server informational message:

The sound server will continue, using the null output device.

Perhaps the other soundcard is turned off but still detected (don't know if it's possible, just a shot in the dark). Anyhow, maybe this can help: http://forum.vectorlinux.com/index.php?topic=4888.0

cat /proc/asound/modules

produces nothing.

the other card is disabled in bios. thus dose not show. the other card. shows in lspci but aplay -l ect as above finds no sound card...

basicly from what i can tell it knows the card is there. but its not using it/dosnt know what to do with it
