My computer: Dell GX260 2.4Ghz 512mb ram.
I did a full installation VL 6 Standard dual boot with XP pro.
The computer hangs at "starting the system" screen when Encore 802.11g PCI wireless adapter with RTL8185L chip plugs in the computer.
You can see the detail here:
http://forum.vectorlinux.com/index.php?topic=11839.0
Note: I don't see error message. The computer just hangs at "starting the system". Keyboard doesn't respond.
When I take the PCI wireless adapter out, VL works perfectly.

I can think of a couple reasons why this happens; some kind of hardware glitch, or a bad module getting loaded.

Boot VL and start looking through the logs. You need to log in as root. Go to /var/log/ and examine the files "messages", "debug" and "syslog", see if there may be some clues. Look for a time index that would correspond with the last time your machine locked up with the card installed.

Another quick and dirty test is to try a different PCI slot for the card.
