updating glib2 and gtk to build audacious

I am trying to package audacious-2.3 and it is giving me hell.
I read on their forum that updating glib2 and gtk could help.

But I think I read somewhere that it's bad to update gtk between releases or something along those lines.
Also I think I read somewhere that building gtk is a royal pain.

Could someone give me a word of advice about if I should even get started on it.

I had built the newest gtk+, glib, pango etc, which where required for my build of liferea.  It worked and liferea was up and running but as a result xarchiver stoped functioning fully and deluge bittorrent client would not even start.  Some other applications just needed to be uninstalled and reinstalled to see the change and they were fine.  Don't know what or if there is a solution other than waiting for the next VL release.  Maybe someone else can weigh in here.

yes indeed, that's exactly the thread i've been thinking of...
So the idea is that if I want to see audacious-2.3 any time soon, I've got to install vl 7 alpha.

From where I stand(I've got a 3 week brake before my summer semester starts) that sure sounds like fun.
I am pretty sure I'll have to recompile the kernel too, to make my wireless work.
O well, no pain - no gain.

Too bad it doesn't have sbbuilder - that's one thing I've got really used to.

I'll download VL 7 alpha tonight and see where it goes from there.

where is vl 7 alpha? 
all I could find is VL6.1-STD-A0.1.iso, VL6.1-STD-A0.1to0.2.delta and  VL6.1-STD-A0.2to0.3.delta

downloading VL7.0-CORE-A0.2.iso right now.


Added:
Installed it.

audacious compiled without any problems, but audacious-plugins said that libxml2 is broken.

At this point I think I'll open a new thread in the Distro Development section, since this one had exhausted it's original purpose.
