Upgraded from 2.6.6, seems to be working ok with jabber servers, which is all I use now. However, the tray icon seems to be misplaced or something, I'm getting a question mark stand-in instead.

No, those icons are ok, I mean the icon from the system tray AKA notfication area, the one activated by Preferences, Interface, System Tray icon. I am a using SOHO Beta.

Ah yes.. systray icon: when I select Tools > Preferences > Interface > Show system tray icon > Always, I also get what looks like a default icon (document with upper right corner folded down and a red "x" in a square in the middle).
Edit: The same broken icon shows up when a message is awaiting. It used to be the white/green one in hata_ph's screen shot.
VL6 KDE-Classic.

Yes it seem the tray icon doesn't working for VL6-KDE version....I try to repackage pidgin in VL6-KDE but it still the same...anyone have any idea about this?
It work fine when using VL6 STD and VL6 Light thou...
EDIT:
I just tested on VL6 STD, it seem when install with pidgin-2.7.0 the systray icon is not viewable as normal....no problem with pidgin-2.6.5 thou...but both using the same slackbuild script....I will investigate more on it..

pidgin-2.7.1 is out and I have tested it the tray icon is working fine in the VL6 KDE version...will upload it soon to my contrib folder...

I grabbed 2.7.1 out of your contrib, and so far it tests fine. Systray icon is fixed.
