Tom's Hardware is running a series of articles on "Desktop Linux For The Windows Power User."  The Linux that the writer (Adam Overa) uses to demonstrate his points is Ubuntu ... which I suppose is only natural since Ubuntu has been #1 on Distrowatch since May 29th, 1453 (or thereabouts).  Still, there's quite a bit in most of the articles which would apply to any Linux distribution.  The current installation is about Office Applications, and there have been previous ones about Internet Applications and other stuff.  The next one will be about multimedia.  Some people might find this helpful in addition to the tables which show Linux equivalents for various Windows software.

Have a look.  You might something useful.

People are going to be really disappointed when they find things changed around. There's quite the debate going on over the dev's intention to move window control buttons from the upper right corner to the upper left, and doing away with the notification area (systray). Add to that the arbitrary removal of features from programs (equalizer in Amarok, update in Firefox, etc.) and you have a distro heading down the same road as MS and Apple.
