[SOLVED] ChangeLog in GSlapt?

Is there a way to create a package so that a ChangeLog appears in GSlapt?

Which forum is appropriate for asking general packaging questions?

When I move a package from the someone's contrib folder I create a brief entry in the changelog.txt file that is read by gslapt. I've questioned the brevity of what is shown in gslapt versus what I actually put in the text file. A recent example of the standard entry in changelog.txt:

net/amsn-0.98.3-i586-1vl60.tlz Upgraded to amsn-0.98.3
This upgrade has bug fixes and new features.

(*Bug fix and Features release*)

If you look at what gslapt shows:

Upgraded to amsn-0.98.3

It would be better IMO if the full entry was available so that users could at least go to the the package's web site and look at a complete/detailed changelog. If you're wanting to include the full changelog that comes with the source code I'm not sure how to arrange that.

I wonder what would happen if the package name were repeated on each line, as it is in the 11-line description section of slack-desc. Anyone seen the docs?

Will gslapt be satisfactory in the long run, or would we want something different?

I don't know the answers to those questions. I can try putting the package name on each line and see if that makes a difference in what gslapt shows. I try that tonight if I get time.

Where in a package do you look for the info that you put in changelog.txt? BTW- don't know when/if you sleep. Thank you so much for all the work on the repos lately. Put answering my question last on your to-do list, please

I usually don't look in the package itself. I go to the website where it was downloaded to determine if the version I'm moving into or around in the repo has bug fixes, new features, or if the package is actually new to Vector. In that case I just note that it is a new addition.

As for a better forum perhaps the packages forum is a better place. You may have to be a packager for VL to post there though.

As for my time, well I've had a bit to spare the last few days (Memorial Day weekend in the USA). Also I love Vector Linux so I feel it's time well spent.

I tried that with amsn-0.98.3 and it made no difference in what was reported in gslapt.

I looked at AlienBob's ChangeLog.txt.

somedir/thepackage-version.etc: A line of info.
  Two spaces preceed lines after the first.
  Not sure if they're spaces; only looked in FF.
otherdir/nextpackage: Its info line

And so on.

Haven't hit it with GSplapt, so don't know if that works.

Marked solved, as the question has basically been answered: the info is picked up from the repo's ChangeLog.txt .
